I've seen a lot of different approaches to mode choice when it comes to wedding photographers. I could have made this a poll, but I really wanted to hear more than a "check n' click".

Please describe your typical shooting style and why you choose the mode you do. If you use different modes in different situations, please share that info as well. I hope this thread is something many of us can learn from or have doors opened to us for room for improvement.

Manual mode when using flash, aperature priority otherwise. I'm not good enough for 'Professional' mode yet.

Manual because I usually end up forgetting about the various quirks inherent with other modes.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

LOL  These are me too. I've heard a lot of people say they use the P mode and it's why I started the thread. I'm interested in when and why they use it. :D

I think P mode is for the end of the night when you stop giving a crap.

Manual or AV mode depending on how much the light is changing. Mostly Manual though.

I usually shoot M for getting ready (as it's generally indoors with consistent light with or without flash). Ceremony it depends on where it is, if it's outside and the light it changing I'll shoot Av or P. Formals I usually shoot M with flash and then reception gets to be a gong show of modes depending on the light conditions and stuff...

LOL  I think that's probably true for many that wouldn't admit it. :D

That's kind of the route I take most of the time. I lean more towards M on the whole though.

started to use M mode more and more outdoor and indoor. Its really nice becasue you can control everything and avoid the metering problems.

I will say I'm finding that the 40D seems to be quite smarter for some reason. I've let it do more thinking during my testing period to see if I notice any differences and so far it seems to a really good judge of scenes believe it or not.
