Am I reading my manual incorrectly or is it true that I have to purchase a new card for my DRebel after 10000 shots have been taken.

After file 9900 it just flips over back to 0001. When you format the card in camera the numbering sequence is maintaned.

Actually, you *might* have to buy a new card after 50 - 300 pictures (depending on card size).

That is, unless you format the one you already have and use it again

... ok, no kidding:

Compact flash cards are actually supposed to be quite stable. Depending on whether you have a microdrive (tiny harddrive, only as durable as a normal PC hard drive) or solid-state (no moving parts, so no mechanical wear), it should last considerably longer than your camera.

Best regards,
Andy

you shouldn't have to
i've taken more than 24000 on one card
and 15000 on my 310d
so you should have no issue

I read the warranty on my Transcend cards once and they are warranted up to 100,000 formats, I beleive. Something I thought I would never attain anyway.

says, " If folder No. 999 is created (folder number full) will appear on the lcd monitor. Then if file No. 9999 is created "Err CF" will be displayed on the lcd panel and in viewfinder. Replace CF card with a new one."
