Landscape photographers can tell you about how rare certain events are... when they camp on a ridge for a week waiting for the light to hit just right - then it stays around for 5 seconds and then fades away...
Sports photographers need to capture "that play" or it well be gone forever - there are no "formals" in a football game - there are no reshoots. Capture it when it happens or not at all.
I like to do both, so I am very familiar with both of these aspects. On the other hand, with wedding photography, this is "their day". I know how important photos can be to the couple and would not want to risk messing up something so important to them. I am much more comfortable hussling around with my cameras to get into a premo spot for sports and bikes. I also love getting up before the sun to get great photos of the landscape before the sun crests the horizon. It is a lot of work to be there and set up and ready for it, but the reward of seeing all that work put into action is awesome! It's more than worth it.
