I have a question for those who own this lens. When zooming, does the zoom ring rotate smoothly across the full range, or do you feel varying resistance across the range? Thanks.

And this lens is probably one of the best deals Canon offers for 1.6 crop camera bodies. I just wish it was EF instead of EF-S.

Just a feeling. Not smooth like a 17-40L. Amazingly sharp lens and only a little wobbly Eric

Oct 23, 2007 22:19 | #6 Thanks for the responses. Looks like there is some variance there. The copy I have seems to behave similar to what rkkwan described. But it takes great pictures, so I guess it is ok. I was wondering if I should send it into Canon while it is still under warranty. But if it ain't broke....

I never really cared, since I don't think there's anything actually "wrong" with it. What he said ... it is a canon consumer lens after all and so the build quality is average at best. It irritates me every time I use it, but it does take good shots and fills a nice range. https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1203740

What i can come out with is that since it's a heavy lens, at 17 and 55mm, the zoom rings feels a bit stiffer so that it'll stop the lens from barrelling out when you're holding it vertically. 30D, EFS1755 f2.8 IS, EF50 f1.8II, EF70200 F4L, 430EX and BG-E2

Mine smoothed out of the course of a couple of weeks. Slight resistance from 17-22 (nothing drastic), and now it's barely noticeable. I have to turn it VERY slowly to feel the difference, and I definitely don't notice it while I'm shooting. I suspect that it'll be gone completely after a few more weeks, but again, it's so small that I don't notice it, so I'm not concerned [50D] [XTi/400D] - [580EX II] - [Tokina 11-16] [70-200 ƒ/2.8 IS] [17-55] [75-300 (kit)] [18-55 (kit)]
