Try doing a google search for "shadow frame photoshop actions" sure you will find something.

Go here for free Photoshop actions:

http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm (external link)

Scroll down to the "Frames and mattes" section (about 2/3rds down the page).

I have Scott's book, but he doesn't directly touch on doing a drop shadow and nothing else, I don't think you can do it, as the drop shadow is related to the extended canvas/original canvas relationship.

I'm looking for essentially the same thing - just a drop shadow border, I think it's called. And I'm not sure any of those matte/frame actions at atncentral had that.

Closest I could find was probably the "wide border" in Marcia's frame actions. Are there others like that which work in Elements, or can someone show a step-by-step to replicate it in Elements? Thanks.

Make your image layer a little smaller, (edit->transform->scale, hold down shift and drag the corner of the image. Hit return to accept). Now double click the layer in the layer menu and choose drop shadow and play with the settings.

That looks good, macro junkie. Are you using Photoshop? Mind sharing the steps you did so I can try to duplicate that in Elements? Thanks!

ok,1st off i took a screen shot of the canon forum..using the prt scr button next to scroll lock(print screen button) this will take a screen shot of canon forum.then i go to either windows edit program because some reson it wont paste on my phototshop.i press edit - paste and it paste the pic in to windows edit program.i then save the image in windows edit and then open it up on photoshop.....I do this for 1 reson.u have to have a canvas to put the shadow on..and im not sure how to do transparent backgrounds so for now i have to do it this way.oh the reason im copy and paste the canon forum web site is u know when u post a pic?well the background of the pic is an off white..when u post that pic if your canvas isnt the same colour as the canon forum then it wil look like my old pic where u see a boarder round the pic..

ok so u now have a small pic of canon forum on your photoshop,,i minimize this then..then i drag and drop the pic i want to edit-frame.

Press D - control-A - shift control-J

then go under

image - canvas size - now set it to width 4 height 4..that will set the size of it..now u need the canvas to be the same colour as the web site your posting your pics on or its going to look like u have a boarder.so click on the canvas extension colour. Now the canon fourm pic u have in the backgrownd u need to click on it with your paint brush u have, click on the bit i have iv highlighted in this thread.now u have chosen the height and width and u have just chosen the colour now u can click OK..this will set your canvas size on your pic..u should now see what looks like a white boarder on your pic.

now go to the bottom right where it says add a layer style,u now want to choose Drop shadow.then just play with Opacity,Angle, distance and size..

let me know how u get on ok.if u get stuck Post here il help u any way i can,,

Below is the bit u have to click on with the caves extension colour.

Toby - glad you liked the link. I don't actually use any of the actions, too lazy. I'm really a hands on guy, probably explains why it takes me so long to process images. I go through bouts where I'll do 100 images in 2 or 3 days, but not touch them for a few weeks lol. Your border looks good!

macro junkie - glad you sorted it out!

40D - you're a legend, thank you for that. I didn't even think to use the free transform option, silly, silly, silly me! I haven't tried it yet, but I know it will work. Good thinking.
