Photography AND Video?

With the advancements in HD video I can see in the future that photographers and videographers can be one in the same. I have already seen a snapshot print that was taken from a frame of video and it is accetable for a snapshot. So I can see that we will shot video to document the wedding and then have abilility to pull out a specific frame to print. Then for the posed shots you would use a high res digital still for the pictures that will be printed for enlargements

I started off with video about eight years ago and have slowly added photography. I do believe that photography is much more lucrative than video for most, but it doesn't have to be that way. The trick is to plan a video shoot very well before shooting, and streamline your post production. Just like with photography, once you get the hang of what works and what doesn't, you won't waste time on things that don't make money.

All that being said, I believe that photographers make the best videographers - they already understand the most important principals of lighting and composition. Both are fun and enjoyable, and if you can build a crew that you can depend on, it is possible to shoot both video and photos at the same event. I have done it many times and always keep the B&G happy.
