Hey everyone,
My husband finally conceded to my getting a 40D. (HOORAY) I've been all over the internet it seems there are a lot of scamers out there trying to take advantage of me trying to get the best deal. Should I just go with B&H or should I spend a little more and get one from a store with a customer service dept. (Just in case I get a "rough" copy.) Where did you guys get yours? Will they iron out the wrinkles soon? Will there be great Christmas deals on it or rebates if I wait a short while? any advice?

I'm going to get mine (next year) from a local store. Same price as B&H right now ($1299 last time I looked) but it'll cost me about $100 for sales tax.

I want to be able to walk into the store and get an exchange if I have problems.

I bought mine from Roberts Imaging in Indianapolis. They have an online store and have great customer service.

Absolutely! I will always support locally owned stores before an Internet source.

AMAZON!!! If the price drops they'll credit your card back! I got $50 when it dipped in price for 2 days last weekend and I had ordered it almost 2 months ago.

You really can't beat Amazon ... here's the email I got:

Greetings from Amazon.com,

I have reviewed our previous correspondence with you, and I offer my sincere apologies for any misunderstanding thus far.

I have researched the total discount history and confirm that the sales price for the item "Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens" on October was $1,457.96.

I have requested a refund of $50.00 to your credit card. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were charged and the discounted price. The refund should be processed in the next few
days and will appear as a credit on your next billing statement.

...

Now THAT'S how you retain customers. Free shipping and no tax (for most).

"Internet sources" are local to someone as well.

I bought mine from my local cameral shop. Price $1299.00. However, I can get all of the help and support I want just walking in the door. Sometimes that means paying a bit more but in the long run a savings

Hmm, I just sent a note to CS at Amazon about price drops on the 580EX II - it has gone down $80 since I bought it in July. Will update about what happens...
