Just ordered a few things:

5d body
Canon 70-200 2.8 is
Canon 85 1.8
Canon 58mm Haze UV-1
Canon 77mm Haze UV-1

(I dont know much about filters. I really just want to wack them on to help protect my lens)

Sandisk
4GB Extreme III CompactFlash Card
Spare battery

Far out im getting excited. Am I missing anything. ive got a camera bag and all that at home. I was thinking about grabbing a battery grip. How important are they?
Im shooting alot of urban and portraiture at the moment.

I have $1700 remaining, but I wouldnt mind putting that away and investing in a bowens flash setup when I have enough.

cheers chris

If you really want to appreciate an UWA on a 5D, go 16-35 II. You won't believe what you see. ;)

Chris, you might want to think about getting a second memory card. Having roamed around this forum and a couple of others, I have seen many complaints by people about how their memory cards go bad. They can often get the existing images off them, but can no longer record anything. I have three, a 4Gb (everyday) and a 2GB (backup) as well as the 256k that came with the XT (since upgraded to a 5D). Who knows, you may fill up the 4 Gb and then what (?)...HTH

Cheers,

WesternGuy

I'd suggest sening the Canon filters back and going with a multi-coat offering from B&W or Hoya.

And ditto what Ronald said.

I thought I read someone saying Canon filters are made by Quantaray.

My new 5D w/grip will be here tomorrow as my Rebel XT ships out to it's new owner.

I'd be surprised if that were true, Rick. Canon makes all their own glass, so I'd have to assume they'd make their own filters. Then again, there might be something to what you're saying...their filters are horrible.

Okay guys is this a better filter selection

B+W 58mm UV Haze 010 (MRC) Multi-Resistant Coating Glass Filter
B+W 77mm UV Haze 010 (MRC) Multi-Resistant Coating Glass Filter

and just to clarify. will these filters fit a 70-200 2.8 and a 85 1.8?

Thanks

In my mind, a second CF is a definite bonus.

What about odds and ends? An Arctic Butterfly 724, lens cloth and pens, and a rocket blower? Maybe tripod/monopod and a remote? A spare battery or two?

The grip was nice, but I don't think it's essential. I got one only because I found myself spending a lot of time shooting vertical and the extra shutter button was a help.

Oh: And a POTN neck strap. Those things are nigh on pure magic.
