I shoot Canon, I have some bodies, some lenses, and some lights. Photography is about the image not the L's that get you there. Though, feel free to send me your L's ;)

Great shot.

If I were nitpicky (and I might be, only because of this forum)... I'd straighten the horizon just a touch.

It's a beautiful shot.

YEa I heard about that. Fires are nightmarish things. And to think we already cut down WAY to many trees it doesnt help any more to put smog into the air coming from the burning down of the things that clean our air. A double no-no.

Sorry to be off topic in that last one. Had to represent my tree-hugger part of me.

I really like this shot. I think it could be helped a little though. IDK. Have you tried putting her more into the lower left corner with a crop?

Also, if you ever do anything like again, I find that a lower viewing angle makes for an even MORe dramatic shot.

Great work here though man.

Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the comments. The sunset out here doesn't usually look like that at all. It is effected by the fires which are still burning.

Great sunset shot. Beautiful colours.

I just don't think her pose says anything. She seems to be staring out to nothingness and that actually takes away from a more serene feeling I think I could have had looking at the image. I think it could have been more powerful.

I really like the feel of this shot. My only nit pick would be that the surfer is in the shot. But that is just my opinion.

No I didn't. She was actually completely dark originally and I put some light into her by adjusting the Shadows/ Highlights in Photoshop CS3 but also used a mask and a gradient to make the top of the body lighter then the bottom so it is gradual and not obvious what I did.

a previous poster metioned a lower angle, and this would help make her less stumpy

I like the shot, sky is great. I would suggest that there are easier ways to get these sunsets than burning down half the state.....if it were my shot the surfer would be gone.

And I agree with AlphaChicken - about the angle, not his tree thing.

I do like the shot alot...if you had used a little fill flash instead of adjusting in PS it would have her pop a little more. I actually think there's a shot inside the shot (not sure how well that comes across). If I was the one taking the shot I would have immediately zoomed in on the surfer and the sun hitting the water to take a vertical shot....think it would be awesome. I don't know how big your file is, but try a crop of that scene to see what I'm talking about...of course it won't have the same sentimental value without your significant other in it but it's a nice shot.
