Just got a call this evening to do a Halloween themed wedding (like the Nightmare before Christmas) this Friday evening. It will be at 5pm so right at sunset. The back yard is to be decorated like a cemetery and the actual ceremony will be done in the garage that will also be decorated.Need ideas and suggestions on what would be cool ways to use off camera flash to add to the "mood" and get excellent pics. I have 2 canon 580EX's, 2 canon 550EX's, and a canon 420EX.

If they really want "goulish" pics, put the flashes on the floor and light them from the bottom up.

How about add some color gels, like deep blue and red? With that many EXs, you could create some really dramatic shots :)

What about getting there as early as possible and trying to hide one or two of those flashes in the background and decorations with some gells on them?

Wow...talk about a nightmare wedding! at sunset in a garage. I will love to see these! Really sounds like fun though.

Bottom up hard lighting is the way to go. More shadows the better :D.

Gotta love the strobist stuff.

I would go with green gels myself...if you can get that nice sickly green color...

But flashes on the floor would be really great effects. And I hope they have a fog machine. That could make for some nice effects.

No flash pending on light. The setting should have it's own light I'd assume since they want this kind of wedding, they probably have it plan.

Like concerts, you use a flash you lose the mood. But like i said, pending on how they have it lite. If not, then above ideas.

I think Rosco has a "puke barf" gel of some sort.

I'd use a wide angle, to distort the faces and make the whole thing more surreal. Maybe f/8 at 200 to keep the background black.

I was thinking using unmodified flashes high up, angled down to get more of a moonlit, look to them. Bottom up sounds interesting though.l

Bottom up sounds very interesting. Where would you get the coloured gels for the flashes though. I have only Ritz nearby. Are there any sweeties that come in coloured cellaphane?

B&H has the swatchbooks for a penny each. They are out of stock right now but click on the "Notify when in stock" and they will let you know when they get them in stock. I got 5 books for less than $7.00 including shipping.

True, but I've read some threads here where people have said they never got them by going that way. And besides what's a penny? :)
