I've used a couple of thinktank products and lowepro ones.

Both can be used, but Lowepro product lines are different. They have cheaper consumer bags and pro bags. The cheaper consumber bags is comparable to think tank, but are more expensive than thinktank.

But the lowepro's "pro" bags, are much more expensive than thinktank and the quality is awesome.

I'm not a big fan of LowePro products, but I did buy a couple of these lens cases for my 24-105 and for my 70-200. I got them to attach to my LowePro SlingShot 100, but I'm so pissed at that bag that I don't use it anymore. However, I can say the dimensions are along the lines of what they claim. I have the 1 and the 1W and the 3 which I use for my 70-200. With the tripod ring on the lens, it's a really really tight fit into the 3.

A few comments here:

1. I really like their products, but then the cam shop doesn't handle many other bags so I haven't seen many other brands.

2. On the 100AW Slingshot: it seem to me to be far too small for the gear that you have; my gear wouldn't even fit into a 200AW Slingshot, let alone the 100AW, so I have the 300AW. And if they made a 400, I likely would have bought that instead.

3. I own both the 17/55 and the 24/105 plus TWO LowePro 1W cases. Both lenses will fit into either LP 1W; with a UV filter and hood attached. However that being said, one of the cases is slightly larger than the other, but the smaller of the two will still accomodate both lenses. My next lens will be the 70/200 f/4, and it will fit into the upper pocket of the 300AW, but then I won't have room for lunch.;)

With Lowepro, if the model name includes "AW" it is an all-weather product. But, that is slightly misleading - the Toploader AW series comes with a rain cover, but if you have other items like lens cases or a water bottle holder attached, the rain cover won't fit over them.

Have Fun,

That's true about the rain covers on the AW series not covering attached items. However, the inner lining of the individual lens bags protrudes about 1/2 inch above the zipper closure, which means that if the lens bags are reasonably close to being hung vertically, rain won't get into the lens. I discovered this in practice as I live in the Pacific Northwest (where it rains a "bit".)

As far as these cases go, I have one for each of my lense. I use them with my belt system when shooting at the track. This keeps me from having to take my Back Pack. I have the one for the 100-400 I use for my 70-200 with the tc and the one for the 70-200 i use for a water bottle. The only one that I have a complaint about is the one that is designed for 24-70, it is a bit short.

Lowepro versus ThinkTank, one can't really say that one over the other is crappy, in terms of, quality. They are both are excellent quality but with regards to versatility, my opinion, the ThinkTank is definitely on top.

I currently have my 300mm f/4.0 in a Lowpro lens case No, 4. I am very satisfied with the constuction of the Lowpro case. I have a couple of others that I really don't use (1W and 3) because I generally don't carry my other lens individually. I do have three Lowpro Nova shoulder bags (3, 4 & 5). I had the 3 before I converted to digital. I purchased the Nova 4 with my Rebel XT and first couple of lenses. The Nova 5 (AW) came later when I decided I needed more storage room. I still use all of them depending upon what equipment I am taking with me. I have a few other small Lowpro bags and pouches. My Wife even has one for her tuner (she plays saxaphone). I have been very pleased with the quality of the Lowpro products.

Camera bags and pouches are in one respect like fishing tackle boxes, back packs and according to my Wife, purses; it is hard to find the perfect one and generally you seem to end up with a number of them for various situations and when you find a new one that looks as if it is better than the ones you have you must have it .

Gear: A bunch of Canon stuff and a bunch of old Olympus 35 mm stuff (OM-1, OM-2, etc).

I believe what CoolTool was trying to say was that if you attach accessories DIRECTLY to the TopLoader, the rain cover cannot be used at all because it either has to fit over EVERYTHING, or remain off. And in that situation, the ''AW'' is no longer an ''AW''

However, this is why I like the S&F Belt so much...the accessories attach to the belt, not the AW-65...so I can use my rain cover if needed.

Since the Lowepro lens matrix doesn't seem to take the hood into account, I would appreciate it if those who own these lenses can list the lens case size they use with these lenses. Also, please indicate if the lens hood can fit (specify forward or reversed). Thanks in advance.

70-200 F4 non IS - (LP lens case 2 and it fits my 70-200mm F/4 non-IS like a glove with the hood REVERSED - Andrushka)
70-200 F2.8 IS
10-22mm (without hood)
85mm 1.8 (with hood forward and/or reversed)
50mm 1.4 (with hood forward and/or reversed)
100-400mm

Hey Samurai - I have the LP lens case 2 and it fits my 70-200mm F/4 non-IS like a glove with the hood REVERSED... i attach it to my LP toploader when I just want to add ONLY the 70-200 and not take my whole kit... they work great, even though its bigger then necessary i can still drop my 17-40mm in when i switch lenses (but the hood is too wide and i have to take it off and sit it on top of the 17-40 when its in the case... ) hope that helps

Take a look at the lens case reviews here:

They give very detailed info on what can fit into each case.

Thanks Riff Raff. I looked through the reviews, but I am finding that the suggestions don't necessarily agree with my experience. That is why I was asking for user feedback. For example, they recommend the 1W case for the 24-105mm without its lens hood. I have no problems fitting my 24-105mm with the lens hood reversed into this case. It just fits, without having to force it. Given this, I think the case they recommend for the 24-105mm with the hood reversed (the 4s) may be too big while costing considerably more.

Also, they recommend the 1W for a 50mm 1.4 with hood in its place. I would not recommend that at all. Sure the lens fits in there..but there is so much room around it, it would definitely toss around in there. Perhaps a smaller diameter case fits this better.

I am hoping that some members can share their real world experience about what fits and how tight a fit it is with the lens hood etc.

Thanks for all your input.
