I am beginning to worry a bit as I have ordered a 40D and I have read some very conflicting reports on here. I am a regular visitor here and realise that if something does go wrong the owners of the cameras do tend to shout the loudest !
Tales of having to return the camera, tales of trouble with the AF, tales of more or less everything are starting to bother me. I suspect I just need a bit of reassurance.
Helllllllllllllllp please.

I think there are more people that are happy compared to people that have issues. Just like you said people that have issue shout the loudest.

I have a 40D and love it and I don’t even know how to use the damn thing

The odds that you'll get a defective camera are extremely low.

Relax.

For what it is worth my 40d is at Canon in Irvine right now for the second time trying to get this front focusing issue dealt with. They keep saying it is within factory specs. The best part they won't even look at any examples I bring in to prove it.

They do use a spec lens to calibrate the body. Have you tried your lens on another body to make sure the lens is not the issue?

Yup. My old 300d focuses better. They now have all my lenses and will check it against the body. If it has to go back a third time I will bring my dreb and have them compare that. I have also used a friend's 20d with my glass and 95% of my shots were in focus.

Don't worry about people who have had problems. Worry about those who haven't been able to get things resolved to their satisfaction. I haven't heard of many of those. If you purchase from a dealer that has good return/exchange policy, you can have the last word by getting your money back.

If there is a problem either return or use the warranty.

Where did you order from? As long as they have a resonable return policy I would not worry. Most are very happy with their 40Ds.
BTW, you have some very nice aircraft photos on your site.

Not if Canon has had your body for a total of twenty business days. No luck on the exchange even and that was from a very reputable online dealer in New York with two letters.

Probably Monday morning quarterbacking here, but I would not send any piece of equipment to Canon that was still inside the exchange period. I would exchange it or get a refund from the dealer.
