Transcend 8GB Compact Flash - $65 shipped.

I have used a Transcend 8GB 120x card for about a year now and had no issues. Just picked up another Transcend 8GB for $65 shipped from newegg.com. This one has a slightly faster speed rating of 133x.

While I haven't done any object testing, they don't seem any slower than my Sandisk Extreme III 8GB units on my 40D. May be a good option to consider if you are in the market for a cheap high capacity card.

Yeah, Newegg has some good deals. I just last week picked up two of the 4gb Transcend 133x for 40.00 each. Fast shipping and they have been very relible to me.

Ive been holding out on a good deal for a CF card since my 2gb isnt enough.

Just a thought. Don't put your eggs in one basket. If the card fails...it won't be pretty.

Good advise , I use / have 3 different brand names .
You never know what will mess up a companys card . maybe static , hi humitity , xrays , heat , a malfunctioning metal detector -
I stick with brand names

RAW images on a 8gb card from a 1dmk3 is not that many photos or even from a 40d. Thats why as these cameras make larger files you upgrade the 5 or 10 1gb or 2 gb cards with 4 or 8gb cards, its all relevant. At races i find myself using using all 5 of my 8gb card then turning to my 4 and 2's to finish the day out.

Believe it or not , My cards start at 16 mb and go to 4 gig .
The 16 and 64's are good to take when I want someone else to print . I just say print these .
Since I won't buy cards off ebay , I'm stuck with the net or big box stores .
I keep watching market place .

Will the transcend cards keep up with fast-paced raw taking as well as the Extreme III cards? I have a 2gb Extreme III that i'm VERY happy with, but its just too smallll... I dont want anything less performance-wise on my next card purchase...

I have from 16 mb [really slow - like 1st one made] to 4 gig cards - I have not had to wait on any of them . Max burst I remember was about 8 .
I don't use anything below 256 mb in camera which will hold about 16 raw on the XTI .
You are more likely to be slowed down by the flash [Built in or external than by the speed of cards .
That said , always go for fastest card you can afford unless you are planning on switching from one type to another - like from compact flash to SD [Secure digital]
The place where the speed of card gets important right now is downloading into computer .
My opinion - XTI and USB-2.0 - I want a firewire reader but went for a portable hard drive reader instead .
By the way to me 2 - 1 giggers are better than 1 2 gig . And 2 - 2 giggers are better than 1 4 gigger .

I have old 1GB transcends and there's no real world difference between those and my Extremes/Ultras in camera. Maybe there is when downloading, but it's not something I've ever bothered to time or worry about. I don't notice a difference and that's just mighty fine for me.

One of the things that slow down downloading is when you download and don't format - just delete the pictures . There are still files on card for recovering the pictures and the computer has to look and see if pictures were downloaded . then it downloads what isn't already downloaded .
I bypass that by selecting the pictures and drag - drop .
I generally reformat after I have 2 copies of pictures in different places .
