Welcome to the forum :) It would've been nice if he had some eye contact in the first pic IMO. The second pic is just too dark for my liking, his white shirt looks like a muddied gray. You could try giving it a boost in PS. The second would also look better with a tighter crop to get rid of some dead space around your subject.

Welcome bartlett714

I too though that eye contact in the 1st would have made it better, then I realized that your son was looking at a butterfly on his dark hat. Initially I thought the hat was part of his shirt and the butterfly a logo on the shirt so did not understand what he was looking at. A bit more of the hat in the picture made make it easier for the viewer.

I agree with jra re the 2nd shot, a closer re-crop will enhance it as will a play with levels and curves in PS to brighten his shirt.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with what's been said about the photos. That second pose is crazy cute, just a bit dark for me. I'd love to see you bring it up a bit and crop.

Looking forward to seeing more from you!

I agree the second shot has a great potential. Lighten, make the hat directly visible, work on the shadow on the face, et voila!
If you post the color version, many of us will be more tha happy to give it a try. This is how we used to learn from each other.
