Before you go even thinking about a 24" Imac, theer has been quite a few people reporting problems/not happy with calibrating the Screen, I looked at one the other day, and the screen has or seems to have a glass front on it??

I think if I got another mac, it would not be an imac, (I have a 20" version, seems pretty good, and of late looking to add 2nd monitor, and another gig mem), but a mac that has a separate display that you can choose for your self.

Personally (lets assume they do sort out AF on MK3) go for a MK 3 being 10MP it is no a great strain on any PC/Mac,,,,,,, get better images first :), then worry about PP on them :)

Good luck deciding, unbelievably I'm having the exact same dilemma! Haha so is this what analysis paralysis feels like? Help!

I would upgrade your iMac to 10.5 and pick up the Mark III. The iMac has already been out for a little while and with the new chips coming out along with some of the issues they have had with the cirrent 24", I personally would hold off and pick up the next rev of the 24" iMac.

I wouldn't get an imac yet. If its new you just need to wait a few months and Apple will drop the price to annoy all the early adopters. :)

The Imac (and 40D) is probably going to depreciate a whole bunch faster than the MkIII so you'll be miles ahead at upgrade time in the resale department with the MarkIII. :)

1dMKIII by far.

I guess Im alone in not understanding what the big deal is about macs. A PC can do everything a mac can and then some for a fraction of the cost, so personally I would just build a cheap PC and get the MKIII

I felt the same way before I used one. Like they say, once you go Mac, you never go back. :D

Thanks everyone, my brain is steadily being reassured ;)

Kent's not big enough for too many 1D III's! :p

Have you ever used one before?
I suggest you don't or you will buy one that night!

You would never regret a 1D purchase apart from the cost - sometimes I wish I had held back, but 1D is more purposeful for what I shoot

1dMKIII

If for no other reason than the following:
As soon as you by your computer, it's going to lose value at a rate much faster than the camera body you are going to buy. As well, if you have a good computer now, that can handle the editing of photos...new, faster, bigger, isn't going to make as much difference.
Lastly, your ability to take "better photos" is probably greater with a better camera.
(this is assuming you had learned both system equally). I guess I am trying to express that there is a greater "potential" in the system of the MkIII.

I haven't ever shot with a 1D, but I know that the first one I shoot with has to be my own, or I will buy it there and then. :D

Whereabouts in Kent are you Wazza?

TBH, this is a not even a contest,,,,,,, Personally you would be MaD to get a 24" imac over a MK3, especially if you have an imac all ready?, or a mac, my 20" does a fine job on PP, and I have loads running in the background, with 2 gig ram, though I want to get another gig ram
I had the biggest video card put in so I can add another monitor one day, the only thing that makes it slow down is if I have to many photos in one directory opened in Bridge.

Heh I was in TW the other day, live only 25 mins away.

Live here with my grandparents, who also have a house in Hastings, so have driven past your town numerous times! ;)

PS, use of a 1D III is just a PM away, although I'm away from next weekend!

I voted for a 40D and iMac because I know how bad I want an iMac haha. But yeah I can see where this is a tough decision.
