TBH, this is a not even a contest,,,,,,, Personally you would be MaD to get a 24" imac over a MK3, especially if you have an imac all ready?, or a mac, my 20" does a fine job on PP, and I have loads running in the background, with 2 gig ram, though I want to get another gig ram
I had the biggest video card put in so I can add another monitor one day, the only thing that makes it slow down is if I have to many photos in one directory opened in Bridge.

Heh I was in TW the other day, live only 25 mins away.

Thanks MaD, its funny how this question has revealed a couple of people who live nearby :D Small world!

Live here with my grandparents, who also have a house in Hastings, so have driven past your town numerous times! ;)

PS, use of a 1D III is just a PM away, although I'm away from next weekend!

Danson Park!! Indeed it is a small world. I used to play in there as a child when I lived nearby with my grandparents :D :D

Thanks Wazza, I think you've all made my mind up. Santa's little elves are whittling my Mark III as we speak I bet.

I lived here as a kid from 1983 to 1986 - then moved to New Zealand. Came back July this year for a few months.

So you've actually ordered, or waiting till Christmas? :)
love your flickr shots :)

Thanks Wazza. My wife would hurt me if I bought before Christmas. Just a little concerned about this "fix" and whether my fresh III out of the factory would be "fixed". Or indeed would I get one that's been sitting in a warehouse for weeks, unfixed.

Still, at least you've help me make up my mind :D

Thanks Kindly :)
Off up Scotland myself on 3rd November - see where I get to - that reminds me, need to PM/Email a couple old POTN folk - Buggbairn and dv2004

Just don't start changing your mind about the 1D - obviously we'll here more of the bad stories, and I'll keep persisting, most are good copies.

The 40D is such a capable camera, you'd really have to NEED the relatively few real-world extras the 1D3 gives you.
If you need 10fps instead of 6.5, or that slightly better AF, or that bomb-proof body, then fine.

I wouldn't get a bloody mac though.

You don't live in the big white house; right in the middle of the park do you??? Is Danson your garden? :) I've lived in Bexleyheath all my life... I rather be in the scenery of New Zealand though!!!

Right, I'm getting fed up with my feeble brain being able to decide between:

1D Mark III
or
40D and a 2.8Ghz, 4GB 24 inch iMac

I'm not a pro, its just a hobby. But my mind is incapable of making decisions itself. What would you get out of the two choices?

I'm not a pro either, but the MK3 would really help me with the photography that I WANT to get into (Sports and low-light concert photography). I also want an imac, but if I were to decide right now... it would be the MK3, I only have a crappy laptop for PP at the moment and an external HD for storage, but I would put up with that... it might be a bit slow, but it gets the job done. So yep, as a non-pro... I'd still get the MK3!

I have a 40D and a MK 3, 40D is great, but the difference really is all about Low noise at high ISO, when you look at the images from MK3 you don't even notice it at 3200 ISO, sure there is some noise when you zoom in to 100%, but it seems different, and is so easily manageable, but using the camera at anything up to 1250 ISO you don't even use any noise reduction at all in some images. Is it worth the difference in price,,, yep sure it is to some, if you never use a camera in low light than maybe not, but the images are better too :)

Thanks everyone, I must say I am looking forward to gaining a bit more "wide reach" with the 1.3x crop instead of 1.6x.
