The reason im asking is that my brother is just starting in the DSLR world with a 350D & wants the 18-55IS as its the only lens really in his price bracket which has IS & to be honest he wont be using the camera all that much, unlike me :D

Ive searched for some reviews where I can see some 100% crops but so far havent seen anything online about this lens, apart from the usual marketing blerb! :(

Possibly not over there, we have it here in the UK now, that might explain why there are no reviews online as most of the decent sites are in the US.

How much is this lens going to be priced at in greenbacks? I too am interested if it is an economical alternative to trading in the kit lens.

Yep, although there isnt a lot of choice in this price range, my brother wants an IS lens & for around £120 here I see of no other lens that can offer quite as much as this one.

Well anything is better than the crappy non-IS one...that's for sure, and if you can't afford to drop the cash for the 17-55 this is $800 cheaper.

I think I'd rather have this lens in my bag to hold me over rather than the middle choice 17-85. At least until I can come up with the dough to get the 17-55 or better.

Not 'clear' whether they PPed them but I think the image of the bike exhaust is very good ~ check the full size image and look at the markings on the hex bolt!!!!

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p
