"Squishing" a pic. for a business card..how?

I'm trying to use a picture on a some business cards. I've edited and saved the photo in PS (E) and then imported it into my business card software. When I get it in there, I simply grab the corner "handle" and squish it down to the size I need, but when I make it smaller it begins to lose resolution or something....kinda grainy looking. And it prints the same way.
I've tried resizing it in PS at different ppi, saved it in formats including TIFF, JPG, and Photoshop, but they all look identical from what I can tell.

Is there any way to reduce a pic. down without it starting to look funny?

No not really. You will always loose information. But it really depends on what size You are resizing down to.

From what size are You resizing from and to which size.

You could try resizing in small steps.

You might need to get a better printer or better paper.

When I print my special image on my business cards, the TIF starts as a 50MB file and ends up on the card as only a fraction of a square inch.

I don't use ordinary card stock. I use Epson Premium Luster.

I don't think the paper is the problem, as I've tried printing the same card w/ photo on 4x6 photo paper (Canon Photo Plus Glossy) where the print is simply crystal crisp, but the photo still shows some "weirdness". It's not terrible or anything, just doesn't look like a "perfect" small photo...nor as good as the full-sized 4x6 of the same photo.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much out of the photo?

Again that depends on what size You are sizing down from and to.

If You size from 3072x2048 to 30 x 20 it is obvious that You will loose a lot more than if You size from 800 x 600 to 120 x 80.

How about posting the original and Your resized photos?
