Whenever I change to new body I keep the old one until I see that the new works ok and I can handle it. Couple of months after shooting with Mark III I traded my Mark II to lenses. I have found out that I really do not need two bodies all the time, if I need a second one I'll lend or rent one. Although, I'm tempted to see the 5D successor, as a wide angle and travel camera.

Never having to say "Sorry--I missed it"-- priceless.

But in real life--when I upgrade everything moves down a slot--even a serious amateur needs a backup.

I'm a hobbyist, and I have 3 DSLR bodies. Carrying one body is not enough! I usually lug 2 cameras on my body with a different lens mounted on each - I just swing them around to switch. My 3rd body is kept in a bag for backup. I also have 4 P&S class cameras. One of them is a G5 which backs up my DSLRs :). Oh, and I've got 5 Speedlites too... just in case :p :D.

I have never met a serious photographer, a professional who works for money or an amateur who just loves his/her hobby, who had only one camera body.
There was always another one hanging around somewhere..

The question is how much is a shot worth to you? I am a working photojournalist, and have lost shots to the good 'ol changing of the lenses. Now, I just drop one body to switch to the other and no time is waisted, no shots are lost. Try explaining to your editor why you missed the crucial moment of the game or event because you were switching lenses, and they may switch photographers next time.
Cheers,
Tim in Montreal

This should be a poll, could a mod make it one?

I only have one body, had 2 for about 2 wks (my 300D and 30D) but I have no need. One is good enough for me as I do not do any shooting professionally for pay.

Yes, this is the problem. Long list of toys. Women just don't understand.

I bet the 90-10 figure is pretty accurate. I have 3 DSLR's (soon to be 4), an old point and shoot, and a two film SLR's.

so if you needed a camera now you'd be SOL? i couldn't be without a camera and i am a pro.

professional electrician :D!

ed rader

Well I don't know what SOL means, but I bet the answer is 'yes'. I'm really feeling it, after all that time (over 20 years) of having a choice of bodies. Having a cupboard full of lenses I can't use is torture!

OK I had one body (Rebel XT), was happy enough with it, was thinking about a 30D at the time, and about two weeks before a big vacation trip to California, the XT developed a minor glitch. The local repair shop was able to easily fix it while I waited but it got me thinking about being vulnerable on the big vacation. So I bit the bullet and bought the 30D and took both.

Now I really like the idea of two bodies. I do mostly outdoors and will have a 400 5.6 on the 30D mounted on a tripod and the XT with a 70-200 or 24-70 around my neck. I like the flexibility without having to make lens changes on the fly.

Just my opinion.

Hi Hermeto, good to meet you. Now you cannot make that statement anymore.
