Very cute kids :) I'm not sure that I like what you've done with the first. The second is very nice IMO...maybe make a little change to move her from the center of the frame over to the right a bit.

Just a personal opinion here....
I agree #1 dont work for me as is...you've got both pictures blending a bit on the edge of the smaller pictures face (mouth cutting in on the lower cheek/chin area).
I've heard a lot say they don't like the more dominant photo sort of difused...so since this isn't working when you can't see the entire face...
try making the smaller photo (the whole body shot) smaller and put it in the lower left corner and see how that works. Try to not cut off limbs too, that bugs me a bit.
Otherwise both shots are cute and clear.
The second I agree move her over a bit more to the right...not sure about the SCing...I'm sure it would hold its on as a plain B&W. ;)
Keep it up, looks like you're getting some nice images to work with.
