Here is my first question, of the 2 sigma lenses, is there any difference optically between these 2 lenses? They are essentially the same focal range, once has macro tho. I love macro, kinda miss it but a 10x closeup lens on the kit is comparable to the macro capability of my Sony H2, so Im satisfied with that. What are DF and IF?

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF $429
Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG IF $309

My other choice

Canon 85mm f/1.8

I fell in love with DOF with my 50mm 1.8, as well as the fast focusing and overall picture quality (way sharper than my kit).

50mm just isnt enough reach for me at family get togethers and walks, and in some cases its just not wide enough. I tend to use my kit lens more for the 18-30 range, and it works just fine. I got used to 72mm on my old camera, and found myself at it quite often, and sometimes wishing that I had just a little bit more. Thats where the 85mm seems to be perfect, but at the same time a 24-70~ would be perfect for a lazy walk around. Id prefer the constant aperature, otherwise I would just pickup a 28-135 IS or even non IS just for a simple outdoors walkaround. The thing is that I often find myself indoors, or outside in the evening where f/4 or f/5.6 isnt enough for handheld, tho the IS may help quite a bit.

Ugh I dont know what to do!

The best deal going these days is the Sigma 24-60mm f2.8 EX DG from http://stores.ebay.com/Cameta-Camera (external link) at $239 + S&H. It's optically right there with the excellent 24-70mm EX but smaller and lighter and cheaper. So consider this option as well.

I was thinking about that, but I dont think 60mm is a big enough jump from 55mm of my kit. Tho the 2.8 constant is a big difference.
