I just received my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM yesterday! I have been waiting (and saving) for some time now to get my hands on this lens. After handling it, I thought, no wonder L stands for "Luxury". The metal construction feels robust, the zooming and focusing rings operate smoothly, and the weather sealing is apparent (although I do not have a weather-sealed body). I also appreciate that the lens comes with its tripod-mount ring (the two f/4 versions do not), hood, and a protective case. I knew ahead that these were included, but I was still impressed when I opened the box.

The only other remark I have so far is that the lens is far from being white. I was already aware that Canon's "white" lenses were actually off-white, or cream, color, but mine is closer to a greyish-beige, cement-like color. Maybe this is due to the lighting in my house.

I will have a chance to try the lens tomorrow, as a few friends and I are going for a shoot at a local expo:

Here are a few photos (all taken with my Rebel XT):

It's there, you can see it in the second photo. I removed it before mounting the lens to the 40D.

congrats..that's a killer lens. I usually hate zoom lenses with a passion..but the 70-200L is the exception. I really like the way it sees color. Very sharp too...just an all 'round great lens.

Congrats and welcome to the club! I'm well impressed with mine at F2.8! At the zoo it was fantastic and kept it on all day. Use it around people and watch out for the looks and comments.

Get an extender too.I like the 1.4x.
