Here is the wording in the contract in regards to cancellations. Sorry, I never did put it in a post.

In the event of a postponement or cancellation of the wedding, all payments prior to the wedding day are nonrefundable.

At last.

The contract says that if they cancel, they forfeit the deposit. They cancelled. They forfeitted their deposit. END OF STORY.

All the rest of this thread has just been a big whinge. You had a crappy contract, and you've paid the price. They could have cancelled the day before the wedding, and they still wouldn't owe you anything other than the deposit. It doesn't matter what's fair or professional. The only thing that matters is what the contract says.

I hope you'll learn the real lesson from this, which is that you need a proper contract.

Moments - your contract covers only payments already made no matter how large or small. It doesn't allow you to collect anything further. Let it go. You wouldn't win in the courts.

Furthermore, it only covers you if the wedding is postponed or cancelled, so I would adjust that wording as well. In this case, honestly, it sounds like you don't have much to stand on. But at least it's a lesson learned.

Yep, fortunately my wife is a wills, trusts, estates and contracts lawyer, so I get all of this stuff for free:D
