I think the design of this bag is just what I need but I'm really after something slightly smaller, and the Primus appears to only come in one size. However, if you watch the Product Video on the Lowepro website it clearly states (and shows) that it comes in three sizes. I've only ever seen one size (presumably the middle one) for sale so how do I get my hands on the smaller one?

There is the Primus Minimus. Depending on where you are I know that Henry's in Canada carries the Minimus. The Minimus and the regular size Primus seem to be the same size. A few months ago the Minimus was more expensive (I was told by a LowePro rep that the Primus was being offered at an introductory rate). Amazon seems to have the Minimus as well.

Hope you have a nice trip in Istanbul Dave, that's a beautiful city. Don't hesitate to share your thought about the bag ;-)a

Unfortunately it didn't arrive until too late so I stuck everything in my Peli.

I actually think the bag is excellent. I agree the trap door needs to be a tad bigger, but only really for the bigger kit. For smaller gear it's fine. Great straps, comfortable, excellent tripod/modopod capabilities, enough room easy for an overnight trip and change of clothes, lots of small pockets. In many ways ideal bag for a hike or short trip. For urban shooting I prefer a shoulder bag with easy opening top and room for two bodies, so I got a Billingham 335. Not sure if I'll keep the Lowepro now my trip is over. The tripod fixing may swing the decision as the shoulder bags no good for that.

My question is, can someone tell me if the top compartment will hold my Samsung NC-10 netbook that is 10.25" x 7.5" x 1.25" in dimension?

I'm eager to find out too. According to the specifications it should fit, but specifications and reality don't always agree.

Anyone?

PD

Yup, it fits! I have the NC-10 in a sleeve and it still fits sideways in the top compartment.

That made me decide to buy one. Received it today.

EOS 40D with EF 100-400 fits (lens shade reversed). I managed to get that combo out from the bag through the side opening but couldn't put it back. Need to practice.

The tripod holder will hold my Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 with a Manfrotto 488RC2 ballhead. Anything larger than that will probably feel awkward, I think.

And I can confirm that the Samsung NC10 fits in the top compartment! :-)

With some practice, you can get the 40D and 100-400 back inside ;-)a

I am very interested in this bag, but I have a question:
Can you remove the pads and be like a normal backpack?? With a big compartment instead of two small ones...
So I could use it for daily use, when not shooting...!

Thanks

Marco.

This is a great backpack. I spent a lot of time researching photo backpacks and this one is really great! It's very comfortable and accomodating for all my equipement. I don't own any L series zoom lenses and no battery grip so that helps.

One thing that I have seen is that the bottom compartment zipper tend to get caught up in the fabric on the inside of the pack from time to time, making it difficult to open and close.

Great bag overall, I'd give it a 9/10, because I haven't seen the perfect pack yet.

I got one from ebay. It has a relatively small camera compartment and large non-camera compartment. It is exactly what I am looking for as a travel backpack. Strap adjustment seems to be well place. I am 5'6", its harness seems to be perfect for me, I think taller people maybe find the adjustment limited.

Size opening is a but restricted, but this I already know. Getting 5D+lens in and out take some practive.

One thing I really like is the outside really don't look much like camera back. I know people with knowledge will know, but to normal eyes, like my house mates, they think it is just a normal day pack. Also I like the main access from the back design.

One thing I do NOT expect is the actualy size of the backpack. It is a bit wider than I expected. I will like it more if it is 2 inches narrow.

With price at about $75, I am happy with it. Overall, I will give it 9/10 too.
