HELP ==> exposure level indicator disappears on my 1d3

I have what I think a stupid question. When I use AV or TV mode there is a exposure level indicator on the bottom of the top LCD panel. However, when I swich to the M mode, the exposure level indicator disappear, which make it impossible to use the M mode without an off-camera meter. This might due to the setting of my camera? Or, it's something else? Anyone has the same experience, or it's just me? HELP please!!!

Its the same on mine.

But is it the way it supposes to be? My 5D and 40D aren't that way

In M, they expect you to be setting the exposure while looking through the viewfinder; you'll find the scale on the RH side of the viewfinder will still be there and function.

Ahhh I figured it out

Set the on/off switch to the top position.

Then change shutter & aperture and look at the vertikal bar in the right side. When you get the right shutter & aperture you will see the exposure bar move.

Yes I figured it out but it isn't quite as on 5D. On 5D you can adjust shutter, aperture & exposure individually.
