well i broke down and opened up the manual on the 40d and have a few questions.

Pg 60 of he manual says on M mode, the iso is fixed at 400?? DOes that mean it's the default? I change the iso in M all the time, doe it mean it trully shooting at iso 400?

Do picture styles matter if I'm using Raw?

thanks to anyone that can help with these.

That's only the ISO that will be used if you set ISO to "Auto". You can manually set any ISO you want.

If you're shooting RAW, the JPEG that's embedded in the file (and that's displayed on the camera's LCD) has the Picture Style parameters applied. DPP will also use (by default) the Picture Style. Other RAW processing apps disregard (or can't read) that information.

Very nice of you that you have opened the manual.. ;)

Page 60 refers to using M mode together with Auto ISO setting.
Picture styles are automatically used only if you shoot .JPGs but if you process RAW files using DPP, you can apply them as well.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.
