Which "IS" Mode...1 or 2? -- Canon Digital Cameras in photography-on-the.net forums

When shooting action sports with a vertical grip in vertical position, which IS mode should I generally be using?

When I shoot horizontal action sports, I normally use Mode 2. However, I don't believe the lens knows that I'm in vertical mode and that Mode 2 should be switched 90 degrees. Is that a correct assumption?

Equipment used: Canon EOS 40D, Canon 70-300 IS USM, Opteka Vertical/Battery Grip.

If you're panning, use Mode 2; it doesn't care which end's up, but damps out the lesser of the two directions of motion.

The IS mode is a switch on the lens.
