Could My 5D Possibly Be Lost On Its Way?

Hello guys,

Last Thursday, I ordered a 5D, amongst other things. It was shipped on Thursday, on the tracking machine I saw it went to Philadelphia, but on Friday it went to Maspeth, New York again! The site has been updated like it should have been but I have not seen any movements, it hasn't gone to Philadelphia, nor to Köln (Cologne), and doesn't show it has arrived in Keflavik.

Now - do you think their system is in a mess now or do you think my package is lost in New York state? I ordered the camera because I'm going abroad - thank God I haven't been able to sell my 20D yet - I cannot think of going photographing without a photographing machine.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Aero - IC

I suggest you wait another day. I find the carriers take strange routes sometimes, probably to do with the way they load/transfer items for international carriage. The bulk packaging might have been done in Philadelphia and now it's gone back to NY packed ready to fly to you.

don't worry about. Theres always a solution. If you don't see any progress in a few days contact the carrier.

Bogong - I don't understand why it should have been for such a long time in NY.

And also - I got "departure scan" from Maspeth, then "arrival scan" in Philadelphia and then "EXPORT scan" in PA, doesn't it mean exporting from the country? I didn't know UPS fly abroad with packages from NY either...

ACDRock;

A few days? No, I used UPS to get the package quicker and I am not going to bear to go abroad without the camera!

Me really scared and pissed here...

Aero, what I've found is that sometimes there's a wait between when it leaves one place and arrives in another. Now you might be more used to what goes on if you've bought from the US using UPS before so you would have a better understanding.

I was in the same situation earlier this year - left my purchase to the last minute but it arrived okay on time. I was able to compare the journey with that of a previous package.

Sorry I cannot answer your question. But as it's late afternoon Monday here I expect it's late Sunday or early Monday morning on your side of the world. That's why I suggested you wait a day to see what's happening. But I'm not familiar with the work routine for customs etc where you are.

Best of luck.

Hi Bogong.

Yes, early morning here...

But at least - a package coming to me via UPS has never showed this kind of tracking.

Ah nevermind, going to do my duties and hope there's just a glitch in their system and it'll arrive at noon. :)

Ciao,
A

This actually happened to me before, but I believe it's just the way their system reports back. It's usually from US -> Canada -> US -> clear custom -> Canada for me.

Having that said, give UPS a call, they do have some very great customer service rep (at least from my experience). Fedex and UPS are great in my books, and i would not touch USPS again in my life.

Hi again guys.

It seems there was a computer/internet glitch in the UPS US system - the package has arrived in Iceland as scheduled and I'm expecting to see "out for delivery" sign in half an hour. :)

Really looking forward to shooting with this camera. :D

Best regards,
Aero

Hope you get it soon Dave. I'm getting mine very soon. I have just seen that it has just dropped to $2179.95, another $20! Good luck with the camera!

Hi Michael!

It is here - just putting on the grip and handstrap - man this is a nice camera. And the colours are outstanding!

Thank you guys. :) The 17-40 is really nice but I'm a bit surprised that when I zoom in at the 100-400 there's an EXTREME amount of vignetting noticable in the viewfinder. Really surprised. Should it be like that? Happens only with the 100-400 the 17-40, 24-70 and 70-200 are fine.

Congratz with the 5D, also you live in a country with stunning natural scenery.
