I'm going on a trip to tasmania in a few weeks and was looking at picking up a CP filter fo landscapes there. I will be using the 18 - 55mm kit lens and 400D. I'm wondering if there's a major difference between these filters (on kit glass).

Hoya SHMC Pro-! CP;

Obviously the pr
o is better, I was just wondering if the difference would be significant on the kit lens.

Thanks

The SHMC Pro-1 is always going to be the superior filter. even on the kit lens you want a good quality one. The Pro-1 is a multi coated filter, where as the standard is not multi coated, and therefore will cause unnecessary glare and flare in your photos. If you can, go for the SHMC Pro-1!

By the way, photobuff is a good seller!

I second Sinkrate.
I've purchased directly from Photobuff's house - they are a two man operation, Zoran and Nenad. I dealt with Zoran and another a friend of mine with Nenad. Good to deal with and no nonsense.

Yeah- I've gotten all my gear bar one thing from Nenad, and sure enough there were problems with the one thing I didn't get from him.

I opted for the HOYA Pro 1 CPL, but I'm afraid that my experience with PhotoBuff has been unsatisfactory, and unless you can pick the goods up in person, I would be very wary of purchasing goods from this firm.

My experience with them was that a HOYA 58mm Pro 1 CPL I purchased was mailed in a regular paper envelope (the sort used for general letters). I was charged $7.49 ex GST for delivery and registered post, and I expected that the goods would be appropriately packaged, eg. in an inexpensive small padded envelope, or similar. The paper envelope was insufficient and was not designed to take the contents, so not surprisingly the flimsy envelope arrived with a large gaping rip in the front and rear of the envelope. The rip was so extensive that it was not necessary for me to open the envelope to examine my purchase, instead I retrieved the filter through the gaping hole in the paper! When I contacted Zoran about the matter, he made no apology for the use of the paper envelope, so this indicates this is standard of 'packaging' you can expect.

It is a joke to see on their website... "and we use a variety of packaging materials to protect the products you've ordered. "

(PS. I'm not against grey market guys in general... I've purchased quite a few things (body, a few lenses, and flash) over the years from a grey market fellow located on the coast and I've been very happy with the goods and saving $$$$)
