Cheap CF cards at B&H

I think this is a pretty good deal...Right now B&H photo has Lexar 1GB 40x cards with WA technology for $139.00 after a rebate. I assume Lexar is doing this because they are releasing the 80x cards now. But, still getting 2 1GB cards is cheaper than the 2GB card...so I picked up two.

A fast Lexar 1GB card for $139, that sounds very good.

Note that Canon cameras don't support Lexar's WA technology. That does not mean you can't use the card, you can - but it won't be faster because of WA.

Maybe a year or two from now the new ones will. At least we can hope.

Ok, what's WA?!

Write Acceleration, a technology by Lexar to make writing to memory cards faster. See http://www.lexar.com …/index_compact_​flash.html and click on the "WA" logo at the top of the page. There is even White Sheet (PDF) about it.

I don't know why Canon doesn't support it, while a number of major other companies do (Nikon, Kodak, Pentax, Olympus). Maybe Canon thinks it costs too much for a relatively small speed increase.

In any case, I wouldn't consider it a major drawback of Canon cameras. A fast CF card without WA is plenty fast in a Canon camera.

Lexar is the only brand of CF card that I have had a problem with and had to have replaced. Lexar is also the only brand that I've seen others report problems with. Usually bad sectors or read/write problems. Lexar has always been good about replacing them quickly when under warrenty, but it makes me wonder how good they are and leary of buying any more. This may be why the price has gone down rather than they are going to release another card. Too many people have had problems with them and they don't sell as fast.

I pretty much stick with Sandisk now and picked up one the other day for $170, which included shipping. I'm going to order a couple of more in a we or so.

O.K. Update...I bought two of them, and they are great...no problems, really fast, and a great addition to my 10D.

I've been using a 40X ! gig card for the past 8 months....... no problems. Just got another from B&H..... waiting for rebate 8)

If anybody's still interested in a Lexar 1GB card, Amazon has it for 130.99 and it includes shipping.

Actually the BH 40x Lexar 1gig card is 109 after rebate.

Now that's a good price. I'm debating whether to buy a couple or wait and see if prices drop further. I guess I don't have a critical need just yet... I'll wait a while.

you guys should also check out http://www.newegg.com I just bought a ScanDisk Extreme II 1gig card for $135. They have a couple of other nice cards too, but most of them are crappy generic brands.
