Did any of you folks take advantage of the current US rebates? Specifically, they are offering $400 cash back on the 5D when you purchase one of two printers? I'm going to pull the trigger on the 5D this friday and I'm wondering if its a legit rebate and worthwhile? I'm worried about plunking $420 on a printer I don't need (with the intention I guess of turning around and selling it) and not getting my $400 bucks back from Canon... Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated?

sadowsk2,

I did exactly that. I purchased my 5D with a Pixma Pro9000. The printer has a $100 rebate on it, plus another $400 if you buy it with a 5D, for a total of $500 back. I'm meeting a gentleman tomorrow to selling the printer for $300, so that will be $800 total I get back - $420 for the printer is $380 net rebate for the 5D. I bought the 5d using the B&H code for $2149 - $380 net after rebate, means I got my 5D for $1769.

I will be sending in the rebate tomorrow.

Even if you don't need the printer, Canon is essentially giving it to you free, considering the printer costs $409 (Use the B&H code), and you get $500 rebates. Why would you not get it? You could buy it, and turn around and sell it for even more money.

Sadly, I had enough for the 5D but not the printer, or I'd have gotten both.

Wow! As long as your diligent on following up with the rebates (tracking them) this is a helluva deal.

Hey M24...you out there???

Seeing as how you might be getting gun shy with the 40D...I'll tell you I have never, ever (knock on wood) seen any error messages on my 5D or XTi.
And this strategy that (above) is a lot of bang for buck.
