Question...
What do you guys think about getting the 40d at a place like best buy or cirtcuit city and getting the extended warranty? Or do I just get it online and save the extra cash from taxes and extended warranties?

helpsssssssss, pros/cons?

I purchased mine at Circuit City and got their Advantage Plus extended warranty. It was more expensive than others available but it covers accidental damage (if I or my daughter drops it for example). I also like the idea of buying expensive stuff from local stores (assuming the price is comparable or the same as mail order) in the case I need to return it for some reason.

Probs. with cameras will usually show themselves quickly. I wouldn't bother with a ex. warranty.

mrbeagle,

Buy it with a credit card, online or where ever, as most credit cards will extend your waranty up to 1 year extra.

I think that in store warranties are B.S, but thats just me ;)

It is really an individual decison.I generally am not service plan person. I did purchase it from Circuit City on my 20D. 5 Days after the factory warranty expired my shutter froze up and it had to be repaired. It would have been $389 according to the estimate. They had it back to me in 7 days and cleaned it.

I have a friend with an Olmpus Evolt (I think 500) from Best Buy. She lives in California and was here in Orlando for the week this summer and her sensor went bad. The local store replaced the camera for her. I know it isn't the norm but it saved her trip.

Best of luck with your decison.
