Please consider the following equipment list. I would prefer to bring ONE maybe two cameras as I will be moving all day along the route and this is for my personal pictures, not some paying thing. Weather looks to be good and sunny. Temps in the mid 50's. All shooting is outside.
It's the Red Sox parade in Boston...if that helps

Bodies:
30D with grip
40D with grip
5D with grip
1D Mk II

Lenses:
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Canon EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM
Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM
Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM

Cards and batteries are covered. Not sure about a flash.

I will have good position on all the route from about 10 meters to "infinity" off the line.
I was sort of thinking the 40D as it's my new "toy" and I like it a lot or the or MkII with the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens.

Thanks

I covered Gasparilla in Tampa with a 30D and 70-200 2.8 IS and it worked out pretty well. A UWA would have been helpful, but I didn't want to bring two bodies and didn't want to change lenses on the route.

For me, id take at least 2-3 bodies, one with a 17-40, one with a 85mm, and one that covers the telephoto range.

I'd take the 5D with the 24-105 and the 1D MKII with the70-200. Lots of range no lens changing. Have fun!

That's essentially what I used for the last parade I shot (in July) and I was very pleased with the results.

With a gear list like that and you are asking what to bring? One would assume that you would have the experience and knowledge of you gear that you would know what to bring..

I'd bring the 5D and 24-105, I have done it before at parades. Also got good spots near the front, and that lens provides a good mix of wide angle (which I use a lot) and telephoto.

I attended one other similar event with a 1D/70-200, found it wasn't wide enough for a lot of situations, but I still found its telephoto reach useful. So you might want to consider bringing that..

Maybe mount the 70-200 on the 40D and the 24-105 on the 5D. That way you are covered continuously from 24mm to 320mm (FOV equivalent)

I'm dying to crack a joke, because, as many have said, you have so much...stuff. Why do you need our advice?

OK, so jokes aside: what do you need?

A 5D with a 16-35L will get your wide shots.

A 24-105L will get most of your shots.

A 70-200 L will get the rest of your shots.

The rest is up to you, given your very narrow range of equipment:)!

If I wasnt getting paid, id take the 5D + 28-300L. Should be plenty wide, and you should have enough reach for the majority of your shots.

if you want to take 2 bodies, 40D 70-200mm, 5D 24-105mm

Though I never used a 5D, or a 28-300L but chances are that would get you everything, but miss some nice shallow DOF

I regularly shoot street fests with my 70-200 and 17-40. I find that as long as you're easily mobile then you shouldn't have much difficulty getting the shots you want regardless of the body sensor size and to a degree, lens choice.

I'd bring the camera body with Yankee pin strips.

Sell one of your lenses and purchase a book on how to photograph parades! :)
