I believe it has a MTBF figure of 100,000, but I wouldn't worry about it - it may fail at 50 or it may last untill 500,000

Just take pictures!! :-)

Welcome to the forums!

As I said, "I believe..." :-)

I got my figure from 'another' forum...

It could still fail at 50 or 500,000 clicks tho' :-)

so what exactly happens when if "fails"? does the camera just not take as good of quality pictures? or does the shutter just completely not work anymore?

Well, the shutter will not work anymore.
Meaning, you will not be able to take any shot.

Are you saying these are Canon published numbers? That's great as it would clear up a lot of guestions always being asked here, but do you have a link to an official publication or appropriate references?

Jesus,

what is this site like...your all so uptight!!

Look, whether you can see into the future or not, or whether you have hard eveidnce someone is saying it will last, if you were to keep taking pictures forever and ever it will fail at some point, so just take pictures and stop worrying about daft little things like shutter life, not as if your gonna sell the camera cos you feel the average predicted shutter life is 50,000.

ENJOY THE CAMERA!!!

Canons books that you find in good camera shops for free say the same thing as the above list. Except, I believe, the 1D is 150K.

Actual mileage may vary, forget about your flipping shutters and enjoy the equipment.
