There are a lot of threads discussing this here at POTN. Some users have complained of front or back focus issues. However, I have had no issues with my 40D, in fact I'm thrilled with mine. If you want to see some member thoughts on front or back focusing look at this thread.

Silverwolf,

If yours does have problems it should be evident fairly quickly. Most users are thrilled with their 40Ds. Take your camera and really exercise it over the next month, examine your pics, and if they look great, then you're good to go.

Congrats on the camera!

Got mine this weekend after much thought - better than I expected. Color is better - more 3D to my eye and highlight priority works great. I could just be wishing this, but again subjective. Custom functions (which was I like on my G7) are great as the customizable menu. Resolution over a 20D, mmm negligible. It's there but doesn't hit you over the head. Focus is faster and better than the 20D no comparison.

dpreview did a test and stated that it could record almost 9 stops, which is incredible, and the amount of recovery you can do is pretty stellar.

The screen is big but not so good - definitely not good for pixel peeping or judging focus on the fly. This is the only obvious weak point I can see - literally.

Tons of threads about this. A summary? Most 40D owners, myself included, are very happy. There are several people that are disappointed. The common complaint is front or back focusing.

A buddy is one of the unlucky few that got a lemon. His camera is currently in Irvine, hopefully being fixed. His keeper rate was totally unacceptable.....maybe 1:20. He is back to his XTi and his keep rate is where it should be.

Congrats on the 40D! I think it's a wise choice to upgrade. You will love it. I played with my friends 40D and he loves it. I played with high ISO on that thing and it's very impressive compared to the 20D/30D. Some will argue it isn't much of a big deal but if you pixel peep, don't let that bug ya too much. =)

Congrats on the 40D! You made a good choice, and I'm sure you'll love it! If you were to have the same problems others were having, I'm sure you would know by now... ;)

I have been very happy with my 40D ;) So yes I think you made a good choice :)
My 5D hasn't been as happy though, it misses being the primary camera

If your 40D works properly it's a fine upgrade. The user interface and control layout is much improved from the Rebel series (XT series).

Thanks for all your help.I really made a quick decision on buying the 40D i seen it at bestbuy and played around with it and i liked how it felt over my Xti but im just worryied about it cause my Xti was my prime and i grew real big with that camera and when i started useing manual mode i liked it even more. What im worried about with this camera is is it going to focus better then my Xti is going to have good colors or are they going to be to saturated and im worryied about the lcd.
