Hello!
Well, I'm about to pull the trigger on a Canon 40D and Speedlite 430ex flash since my scholarship money came in today, FINALLY!
I'm upgrading from a Rebel XT and selling my extra Rebel XT on eBay soon.

Ordering both from BuyDig.com because they have always been absolutely wonderful to me and the one time I had a problem with a defective lens, they were happy to ship me a new one before they received my bad copy.

Was thinking of ordering a 50mm 1.4 for portraits... I'm not sure I need that right now, though, since I've got the 17-40mm L and the 70-200 f/4L, but a faster lens may actually be a wise investment if I start doing indoor, low light stuff soon... hmmm.....

Well, here goes nothing!

I went from Rebel XT to 40D and I couldn’t be happier.
I’d say, go for it.
430EX also very good choice, you’ll make no mistake if you buy it..

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

You'll love the 40D. I've pretty much forgotten about my XT since I got the 40D four days ago.

Haha! Thanks for the reassurance, guys. I'm still debating about that 50mm f/1.4. I think I need a fast prime for indoor stuff, which I usually like to attempt with my 17-40... :-P

The 40D is most likely going to be my next body, upgrading from an XTi. I got to test one out at Best Buy and absolutely loved it. 6.5 FPS is awesome :)

As for the 50 f/1.4, I couldn't be happier with it. Great IQ, great bokeh, great build quality, you really can't go wrong with it.

Hey, hey! Another (potential) Southern California 40D owner!

I'm up in San Jose this week and tonight we had a real shaker of an earthquake (5.6 magnatude). Nothing worth photographing in my immediate area, though. :-o

Just a quick post to show what the 40D and the 17-40L can do in room light, halogen down-light off a 12' ceiling, no flash!

Say hello to my little friend Errol.

Well, let me be the first to say congratulations on your new purchase. Also welcome to the 40D club. So what part of Southern Ca. do you live in?

Congrats on your purchases! (Say, shouldn't scholarship money go towards tuition? But I don't blame you, hehe.)

I love my 40D! You will get a blast with yours as well. I kept my XT as a secondary body, though, mostly so I can shoot with a combination of lenses without having to switch them on and off.

The 50 1.4 is excellent for portraits and low-light shooting. Enjoy.

I'm in the Santa Ana / Garden Grove / Orange area (near The Block). Hah! Krepta, this scholarship was for "education-related purposes..." I think it's quite justified. ;) hee hee.

Absolutely! Now, don't you wish you could get a scholarship to fund "education" for a 1-series body? Hehe.

Hah! Yeah, that can be next on my neediness list ;). I AM a photography major, after all!
Should be shipped tomorrow and here on Saturday because I had some problems with my bank authorizing a large purchase like that. Will post pics when they get here!
