wow, Niraj, I just read the terms for user content on Facebook. You are right - that does give them a pretty wide berth for using your images. maybe I won't start that group after all.

:) sucks eh... but not many people bother to read the Terms of Use or T&C's...

Who knows 3 years from now, they'll be making money off my images... because they've archived them off in their secret database.

I find that all the sites, FB, Flickr, MySpace etc etc if you actually read the ToS anything and everything you put up there becomes their's for use. You then factor in pros/cons and possibilities of each.

What are the chances that someone from one of the sites finds your image out of the millions avail and uses it etc etc. I delayed signing up for Flickr because of this but found out I was mainly worrying about something that more than likely wouldn't happen to me. Plus the networking provided on it is definitely an asset that I can risk the use of some images.

I'm on MySpace too mainly to network with bands -- my main photography is local bands and artists coming through, they all have MySpace so I had to sign up to communicate them. It's all part of the devil but to do business/network sometimes you need to dance with the devil if you will.

Also, some have it that they only use your images as long as they are on the site while others have full use even if you remove. The ToS' are so long though that it's just mind numbing going through them and understanding them.

I'd have to reread to be sure, but I think it stated that you maintain the ownership of the content and if you remove them from facebook, while they may still have a copy in the archive, they no longer have the right to use the content.

I'm not questioning the advantage of the networking capability for one second... I'm sure i've posted in excess of 400 images on their, i've been tagged in 200+ and there's about another 100+ i've not tagged myself in.

It being a social networking site, I dont mind if pictures of me are on their.

I've even posted some of my photography stuff on there, but i daren't post up images I plan on making money from.

:)
