I'll give you the same advice I think I gave Leesa.

Put the kids to work doing PP. They gotta pull their weight, don't they?

My classroom is 7th & 8th grade boys...alternative education, they have rap sheets and probation officers. While I know they all have artistic abilities, I will pass on them using their skills on my photos.:D

Kirstin,

I just visited your blog...great wedding shots! I love how you managed to keep the couple well exposed and the skies so blue at the same time...how did you do this? I am doing a beach wedding in October (Destin, FL) for my cousin's daughter and it will be my first beach event...needless to say I am very nervous about getting the exposures right. You did a wonderful job! Please share your techniques. Thanks,

Jim - thanks! Almost all of my shooting is done in incrediblly bright sunlight with no shade to be seen. There's a couple of things you can try - and I by no means an expert - that seem to work.

Get used to using HSS on your strobe. Keep your aperture open and your shutter speed high. Use your flash to fill. You can stop down your aperture and keep the shutter speed high if you can't get the hang of HSS or need to conserve battery power, but there are often bits in the backgrounds that I don't want in focus and why have the 2.8 and faster lenses if I'm not going to use them :)

You can also "blow the sky" by having the subject's back to the sun, trying to get a rim fill hopefully!, and exposing for the face with a touch of fill light. It looks nice, but I find my clients usually say "we want to have the gorgeous blue skies" - whether we have gorgeous blue skies on their day or not. The scenery is one reason people have photos taken here - to get that beachiness!

The ceremony shots, at least some of them, were taken with no flash and the 70-200. The sun was frying them so I didn't really need more light on the subjects, so I sped up to get a good exposure and the skies behind exposed pretty well, too.

In post, you'd be amazed at what adding a vignette in LR can do, too. I about feel off my chair when I saw what happened when I ran a preset that had it - really made a difference in the sky.

HTH

Kristin,

wow, nice shots. I love the areas you have to shoot in and of course, I'll always love your fish shots :D

Thanks, Lisa :)

Kristin, beautiful. Colors are amazing on my monitor. Congrats! So sunny that day.

Suzy - yup, sun is one thing we almost never lack here. I often wish for those lazy overcast or tame sun days that others seem to get, just for variety - but then when we get one, it's always pouring rain! Luckily that doesn't happen very often!

Thanks for the kind words. Popping colours was important to them.

Rant here - about Dream Production Australia

This is the short version...Dream Production Australia is sucking.

I ordered things in January and I was promised delivery in February. End of Feb I ring them and am promised they will be here end first week of March. After Easter I call again, hmmm, I don't know let me check where it's got to.

Nothing.

Call again - actually, I call several times and leave messages and send emails. It takes ages before I finally get through and only when I ring from my home number instead of my mobile. I could be paranoid, but it seems odd.

Oh, the courier tried to deliver it, but no one was there and they've sent it back to us in Sydney. I tell Gary, no, that can't be right 1) we're there from 0630 to 1800 every day of the week, 2) my phone number was submitted so if there was a problem someone should have rung me, 3) what courier company, especially in a small town where everyone literally knows you, only tries once without even leaving a note of failed delivery and 4) if it made it to Exmouth in the first place, it would have gotten to me as all the couriers know me and I've gotten stuff that had really bizarre addresses or no address, just my name, on it.

Gary said he'll check on it. Over a week (and more phone calles) later, OK, it's on it's way to you, we found it.

Almost a month after that, still no gear. So I ring him again (once again, I have to try several times to get him). Oh I was going to chase that up. I left a message with them to see where it went but I haven't followed it up.

Ok, I say, shaking my head and fuming slightly, how about you go chase that up and get back to me? I have specifically asked you to ring me as soon as you know what's going on. That was last week, on Wednesday, I think. This morning I have an email from him, finally.

Seems I originally put the PO Box on their web form. I also put the street address, I believe. We do not get mail delivery here. I talked to Gary about this when I did it and explained things to him and he didn't have a problem with it, so it's not like 1) the information wasn't there and 2) the company didn't know about it.

Now, at the end of April after a multitude of false promises and pathetic customer service, he's claiming that "the company director" is wanting ME to pay for the shipping from WA to Sydney because the courier supposedly returned the items to them. They won't deliver my goods until I pony this up.

And then they are changing what they promised to charge for future items.

I have a call into him and am waiting for his return call.

I don't think I'm out of line to expect to not pay that extra shipping on this order. This has been handled extremely badly with no signs of resolution until I called a million times.

What a saga that is now over! I love Big Brown, and Jim, I had a chance to go inside big brown tonight and take some pics...LOL...I think they were all afraid of me! I also saw my regular guy who I had taken pics of, we talked for a bit and he just thought it was crazy I was there with camera in hand!

Congrats on receiving the demo books! From the few photos online, they look great!

I am dead tired. Between sleep deprivation last night and a grueling rehearsal tonight after work I'm ready to sleep for the next week. Whee!

I wander in and out from time to time, and they always make me feel welcome. You're a lot friendlier looking than I am, so you will definitely be made to feel right at home.

You know we love you!

Oh boy, the thread moved a bit today. Good luck to everyone who is having shows or sessions, etc.

I'm home finally and going to bed. Watched the Flyers beat the Capitols in the stupidest way, watched American Idol and Dancing with the Stars that I tvoed and am catching up with the PA primary. So, off to bed and hope everyone has sweet dreams. Good to see new and old friend here, Kathy. :) Get your computer already!
