Sounds good to me, Leesa. I'm sure you're up to it. We're having lightning tonight. Rain tomorrow evening. No outdoor shooting for me.

Hey there Kathy - THANK you! :D

How did I do that? Well, this is the best of 12 shots I did RAW. First I exposed for the sky because I felt the coolest thing about the shot was all those neat twisty turny smoke plumes; it's not something you see everyday. But I knew that would cause the foreground to go about 1 1/2 stops too dark.

Soooo.... once the sky was the way I wanted it, I made a duplicate layer, and then used levels to sort of find my black point and white to add strong contrast - the lighting was pretty flat and I knew it would look blah later on if I didn't do something about it in PP.

Then I did bump exposure up to get back my foreground, and then "erased" it away to reveal the desired detail. I also did a little bit with the smoke plumes to lighten up some of the smoke, just a little, but not too much to blow out the pixels.

That's sort of more or less what I did, with various tweaking in between. PP took about 30 minutes of playing around and undoing stuff I screwed up.

Another GREAT shot Stu!

How do you do that!

If I took the same shot of that place as you did, mine would look BORING.

Are you putting hidden subliminal messages in these photots?:D

That's a great breakdown on what you did, THANKS!

I am amazed as always!

I really need to go someplace where I can do things like this. We are just a little backwoods town. We used to have quite a few saw mills, but they are all gone now. Maybe a trip to Portland or Salem should be in my near future.

we have quite a bit of lightining right now.

DH is getting DD#1 to sleep and I'm sitting here watching 'can you duet'
I might try to do some digital scrapbooking pages in a bit. I'm getting my 2nd page published in Digital Scrapbook Magazine. It is in the June/July issue. I had one published a few months ago.

So a Wedding question...............for all of you

Do many of your couples get all the formals shot before the wedding, as in B&G see each other before the ceremony?

This is getting to be VERY popular here and I LOVE it!

Most people like to do it before, no pressure the day of. I think some people, like my own son and his bride, are annoying. She didn't want him to see the dress and her in it. Most people want to get it over with and get the shots for the reception as part of a display.

Kathy, we shoot the guys before hand and our goal is to get the girls, but you know how that goes. Generally everyone is SO busy before hand we don't get many formal shots then. Almost always after...I love to have an hour, but generally I only have 1/2 an hour to perform a miracle....since we are not leaving locations, there is even a park across the street, we are set..and I'm excited to get at it.

The last one i did wanted 'private time.'

What we did was I had everyone leave the sanctuary except me and the groom. Had the groom stand down the aisle with his back to it facing the back of the room The bride walked up the aisle and when she was ready called the grooms name and he turned around. I grabbed a few shots before giving them some alone time w/o a camera. ANd then 'broke it up' about 5 min later..

OH!! Anyone notice that the REAL wedding coordinators are the photographers?

Suzy, I agree waiting is SO annoying! It is so much more relaxed when the formals are over.

Lisa, Do you ever have any couples that see each other before the ceremony? Rushing is a drag!

Stephanie, I have had several couples do that inside the church also, and most of mine last summer did this special meeting outside away from anyone, like on a bridge or staircase. It's great!

When I have a couple ask me which way is best, I try to encouarge the seeing each other first and getting the shots done before the ceremony. If they are dead set on the groom not seeing the bride before she walks down the asile, I smile and secretly think "Oh RATS!"
