Don't see why not - it has lovely bokeh, though you'll have to stand quite a way back, which makes communicating with the subject difficult!

how is it? I consider buying the 35 1.2,

I have done portrait work with the 300 F/2.8L IS, so I would imagine the 300 F/4 would be fine

A "booming" voice is one that is loud, and easy to hear. In other words, your voice carries well over farther distances than someone with a weak voice.

What 35 1.2 are you looking at?

The 300 could work well as a portrait lens if you have a bit of space, it's a fast focusing and very sharp lens.
