How can you tell if it is a TN or not... I read nothing about TN on Dells site

also, what is TN?

I have two CRTs that I want to upgrade one to a LCD...

I also game (Flight sims) but color for photo editing is more important.

I like my 2407WFP. For its price point it is fabulous.

Of course I would have liked to spend another $1k, but a really high-end monitor will have to wait ...

Dell's monitor's aren't bad, but I'm not sure if I'd go with them. Maybe price...I haven't been on their site in awhile to see what's available or I'd suggest something else. I think they have Samsung's and I love their monitors.

I beleive the Dell 2407 -HC has a Samsung panel.

Thanks for that Bob - I know a few places where I could buy the monitor but was interested as to why it had been removed from the Dell website.

I haven't read much of the thread, but thought I'd chip in:

I just received my Dell 2007WFP today. Having sent back an LG monitor with a TN panel screen, this is just outstanding in comparison. I'm certain that it's an S-IPS screen that I've received. It's an A04 model, made in Czech-Republic and is panel number V1B22 RT803. The serial number also ends in L, which suggests that it's an S-IPS screen. The S-PVA screens have serials that end in R, from what I've researched.

It's an awesome monitor, viewing angles are superb in comparison to a TN screen. A slight bit of purple/amber colour cast on the screen from extreme angles, but this is a trait of cheaper S-IPS screens, and is only visible from extreme angles on dark images. Nothing to worry about. Screen can also rotate to portrait mode, for working with tall images. Comes with 2 USB slots on the side as well, which is nice.

So yeah, just a heads up. If you're really worried about getting an S-IPS screen, call up where you get it from and get them to tell you what the end of the serial number is. If it's an L then it should be an S-IPS panel. I bought mine from overclockers.co.uk, although I'd have gone somewhere else if I could, as their customer service for returns can be pretty dire.

To find out what panel a monitor is, type in the model number into http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php (external link) and it'll tell you.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 213T, and I have had problems with adjusting gamma, as the gamma of the three colors did not match in the bright end.
The problem got solved, when I started to use analog cable, so I could setup gamma mode 3 in the monitors setup.

I calibrate with a target, I have downloaded from;
http://www.aim-dtp.net …oad/monitor_gamma/220.png (external link),
using it as a supplement to the simple targets in Adobe Gamma.

I have a calibrator (from Colorblind/ProveIt) that I don't use. Some years back, when I used it on my CRT, it never gave an adjustment different from what I could achieve with Adobe Gamma. Furthermore, the software requires a key code, so I have to inquire for a new key code, when I reinstall my Windows XP. I don't want to depend on such a policy.

I went through two different new Samsung LCDs and had trouble calibrating both. I eventually exchanged it for a Viewsonic.
