I trying to use my 1D MK2N and my lap top with Vista and my problem is that although the computer sees the camera neither the canon Remote capture or other software I've tried always tells me that no camera can be found. I'm sure its a driver problem and have downloaded the driver Canon suggested but I don't know if I've install the driver in the wrong place or what but I'm still cant get it to work. I have tried changing the driver manually but vister tells me the correct driver is installed.
Has anyone had the same problem and is there a solution?

Are you using the firewire connection. You have to. USB is not for PC operations, only printing.

Thanks for the advise. I have used USB with other digital cameras in the past and assumed that I could do it with the 1D mk2N. Having had your reply I'll try it with the firewire and see how I get on

All of the up to date 1 series use the firewire connection. I think the original 1D didn't originally but began to after a firmware update. Not completely sure about that though.

All other non 1 series bodies use the USB connections.

1D III uses USB as well; USB's finally caught up (mostly) to FireWire for transfer speed.

Thanks for all the info I didnt give it a thought that it might not work with USB. Ive tried it on my desk top computer and it works fine using DSLR Remote Pro so all I've got to get now is a fire wire PCI card for the lap top and I should be away. Has anyone use any other remote capture software besides Zoombrowser or DSLR Remote Pro? I did try Capture One but it seems over complicated and although DSLR Remote Pro seems OK its $98 seems expensive for just that one task (call me mean if you like, and if you do I'll probably buy it anyway)
