I do. Canon's description of the problem they fixed did NOT match the various problems people were having. There's more than one issue with the MK-III, some or all. The Submirror MAY be the fix for the hot-sunny day issue, but not the other problems.

I'm still hoping when Canon finally gets around to fixing some of the cameras in the field we see positive results, but it's looking grim :(

I certainly wouldn't buy a 1Ds until we start seeing positive news.

I have a 1Ds on order it is 75% paid for I am beginning to wonder now!!!

Canon, did specifically say the problem did not affect the 1Ds.

Don't do it Rob. Not unless you want ulcers. I hear that the 40D is having some focus issues as well. Seriously, a friend has it and while it's quite excellent in a lot of ways, he's had some completely OOF shots that have no explanation. I've seen them and they look EXACTLY like the completely unexplained OOF shots that I got with my M3. Exactly.

Canon also said there was nothing wrong with the Mark III!! they also said that the Mark III was fixed! I now know of two people complaining about the new camera.

well, the last meet we had locally (and this photog does know what he's doing) he was shooting alongside several people and the sequence shots of a BIF were doing exactly what the sequence shots occasionally did on my M3...missed focus (no reason it should...the others using the 20D and 30D had no probs) jumped around and some of those weird/unexplained total OOF shots. It wasn't user error. He sent it in to canon and we're waiting to see what the repairs were...

Oh, great! This is what I was afraid about wrt the 40D. I was thinking of getting it and getting rid of the MkIII, but was afraid it would have the same issues based on the technical spec of the focus system (which sounded just like the one in the MkIII).

kenny,

i do not wish to get involved in this thread again but if i can give you one advice it would be to simply forget all this nonsense and just pick up a 1DmkIIn to go with your 5D and call it a day. later on when everything is fixed and we know for sure that the camera is fixed, pick up another mkIII and be happy. i think that you have already been through enough with this whole issue so maybe it is time to just cash out and leave the table. i can promise you that the 1DmkIIn takes very good images and i have many many prints on my wall to prove it.

I know just what you're saying snir! Thanks. I will definitely go through the fix and see what happens, there's always hope. :) In the mean time I'm just focusing (pun intended) on my 5D and 20D.
