Everyone would do very, very well here to temper any news re: the"fixed" MkIII's (good or bad) with the fact that in many, many cases the problem took weeks, if not months to manifest. The poll over at FM is just one of too many examples. An awful lot of "No Problems Here" later changed their tune. All that aside, this is gonna be one helluva week in cameraland... Wasn't there an ancient Chinese curse, like "May You Live in Interesting Times":lol::lol:

Oh, great! This is what I was afraid about wrt the 40D. I was thinking of getting it and getting rid of the MkIII, but was afraid it would have the same issues based on the technical spec of the focus system (which sounded just like the one in the MkIII).

KAC

Keny,

I got a 40D and I can tell you (at least mine) that works like a charm shooting AI Servo to targets in movement ... and also in One-Shoot ... only some minor issue with the LCD display like the MkIII at beggining (under some circunstances, you are not able to check the focusing in the LCD display, even when zooming it)

It looks like there are some users with some issues, but they are a minority ... I think that all this stuff around Canon is getting people a little paranoiac .... but it´s a awesome camera for the price.

Cheers
Juan

Thanks Juan. Certainly no "uproar" like with the MkIII. :)

What would be a good test that we as group can run independently yet be able to compare results and be able to discuss variations?

We can use the test that Canon promised us. A simple test to determine if we have the AF issue, as Canon stated they would provide. Oops, again, Canon fell short, as I said back then, there would be NO test provided by Canon, except to look at the serial number. Hopefully I am wrong, but thus far Canon has not provided the simple test they told us they would offer.

If you look at everything Canon has so far stated not one thing has so far proved to be true
so by Law of averages, they are way over due a true statement, lets hope it is the fix has solved all the problems

Why not try to suggest something instead of going on and on with this Canon bashing. Yes Canon screwed this up - we know it. Lets look forward.

Assume Canon can't provide the test so why not try and give suggestions to how a test could be performed that we all could do easily and get comparable results from.

Why not wait until the cameras are repaired and tested, and then see what's what...

You know, I have a bad 1DMIII, too, and likely have spent just as much money on Canon equipment as most here and am just as interested in knowing what is going on as anyone but this constant whining and complaining, over and over and over and over from that same three or four guys is making this thread a PITA to follow. Can't you guys just do what the Mods keep asking over and over and sit on your hands if you don't have something constructive to contribute. WE KNOW YOU ARE UNHAPPY ALL TOO WELL but don't spoil getting information for the rest of us! If you just have to whine and dump then please start your own thread for that.

I received a call from Canon regarding my request to speak to a supervisor regarding exchanging the M3 for the 1DsM3 and paying the difference. I asked for someone to call me with the authority to make the exchange. The person who called said no one could authorize such a transaction. Must be news to the CEO. Canon was not willing to make any allotment at all for an exchange. They said if I was stupid enough to buy it, I was stuck with it. No, of course they didn't say that. They tried to inform me how the fix is in and all of that, nothing new to the news they gave me. He said a plan would be announced by the end of the month. Of course, the end of the month never arrived for firmware 1.1.1 either. I asked if warranties would be extended on the actual mechanism involved and he said no, the standard warranty only, or 90 days, whichever were longer, lol. So according to that, if this is a duplicating problem in the future, we better hope it is during the warranty period. He did take great pride that Canon would actually pay for the freight both directions. I informed him that I had a service order in back in August, and if I had sent it in back then, per their instructions, would I be reimbursed postage now since it was the same problem (told him others have done it multiple times) and he is very saddened to say that past postage for this issue would not be eligible for reimbursement. Sure, we should all understand that right? Yeah Canon! Way to treat your most valued purchasers of professional level camera equipment. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy to have been such a loyal client, as Canon truly recognizes us.

Because there are sooo many products you can just arbitrarily upgrade

don't want it, sell it like the rest of the world would do

Great idea! That's what I am doing. I have a repaired and approved MKIII and want to know what would be a reasonable test shoot to determine if things have improved or not....any suggestions folks?
