I have a Rebel Xti right now, but I'm looking to upgrade to the 30D. However, to do this, I'd have to sell a bunch of stuff :(. Is the difference between them enough to make it worth it? Or should I keep saving up to upgrade to a 40D? I appreciate any help I can get on this. Thanks.

It is not worth it if you have to sell a bunch of stuff. The only thing I like about the 30D compared to the XTi is the highe fps. I only use that in certain situations but is nice to have.

I only have a 20D and 30D (I have played around with the XTI). The main difference to me other than the feel of the body was the 20/30D is easier to change the settings (ISO, Aperture, Speed, etc.)

Like I posed in another thread, I'm looking to get my first DSLR and I can't decided between a new XTi or a used 30D...any thoughts?

The 30D feels sturdier than the XTi, its a little easier to hold, it has nicer controls but, unless you really need the increased FPS shooting speed, I don't see any huge advantage over the XTi. If you want to see an improvement in image quality, spend the money on good glass instead. If you REALLY want to upgrade the camera body, I'd say just wait until the price of the 40D comes down.

It depends on the individual - what difference are you looking for?

I wouldn't even do a straight swap of my XTi for a 30D, as the size/weight of the XTi are a bigger benefit to me than anything the 30D offers...

Tin,
I personally do not think it is worth the upgrade. I use th 30D as my backup to my 5D.
Very recently I picked up a wedding while my 5D was in for service and I had to go with my 30D and had to use a friends xti as my backup.

A few things I did notice:
IQ: about equal.
AF: In low light condition I would have to give the nod to 30D particularly in AI servo.
Controls: Absolutely could not stand the controls on the xti.
Viewfinder: I was surprised how dim the xti viewfinder was.
Build: the xti just felt cheap in my hands. But I realize I am used to handling the 30D or 5D.

From a technical standpoint I would consider the 30D a minor upgrade from the XTi and not worth the extra cost.
I dont know which lens you own currently, but unless you already own quality glass, you would be much better off purchasing a new lens.

Gear: FujiFilm disposable camera.

Another vote for not worth selling off other gear.

I guess it would be smarter to just wait for some used 40Ds to show up on the forum. Thanks for all the advice.

I wouldn't sell kit for that move. It's really not much of an upgrade, more of a shift sideways. I doubt it will make improvements to your photos and you'll be down some gear. Keep saving your money and something better is bound to come up.
