Cropping in tight on a 400D vs. 30D

Would there be any benefit to using a 400D as opposed to a 30D if you wanted to get more "reach" out of a long lens? Considering that the sensors are the same but the 400D has a higher pixel count would that translate to an abilty to crop closer.

From a resolution stand point, you could crop a bit more with a 400D than a 30D and still retain the resolution, it's not really that much of a difference though.

Yes. The 400D (and now the 40D) has the highest pixels-per-duck score of any cameras in the Canon range.

Take a look at the difference in image size between the 10MP XTi and the 8MP XT.

I personally would not get a 400D over a 30D (I have both) in order to crop digitally.

Tee, that is the kind of example I was looking for. StewartR, I really like that as well and makes a good reference for the future.

I have both the 400 and 30D (as well as a 20D) so I was just more curious than anything.
