Wow is this thing heavy! I mean, I knew it would weight more than the 50mm 1.8, but wow this thing is massive!

Im a little underwhelmed at the moment, I thought that 70mm would be a bit more reach, and its sharp stepped down to 4 and not too soft at 2.8, there is a bit of red. Its miles ahead of the kit lens but just cant touch my 50.

So Im thinking about returning it and saving a bit more towards the 70-200 f4 or just picking up the 85mm for now since know it would be perfect. For the size and weight of this I just dont see it replacing my 50mm as my everyday lens :(

I didn't like the one i tried - just too big, i felt -= but that's the price you pay for f/2.8 - even the EF 24-70 is no pixie of a lens. Remember that 50 1.8 is the smallest EF lens except perhaps for the 35mm f/2

I ended up with my 17-40L instead.

I'd give it a fair try though, and see if you like the handling, the image quality and the f/2.8 of the lens

Well since they are closed right now I do have the weekend to play around with it, Ill see how things go. My gut just tells me that I would be happier with a prime setup as opposed to a zoom

I've had mine for over a year and it's been a solid lens.
Sometimes the AF is a little off, but for the price I paid and the sharpness of the shots I have in general, I love it.

However, it IS big... but not as heavy as the 70-200 2.8L IS

Well, your 50 doesn't zoom to 70 or out to 24 either :D

Thing is, I can barely tell a difference between 50 and 70, I guess I expected the difference to be quite a bit larger. I do like the 24mm end of things, but after playing with the lens some I think that I would be happier with a 10-22~ and 85mm 1.8 and then later upgrading to the 50mm 1.4.

The sigma is an awesom lense 24-50, tho Im noticing it a bit soft at 70. Ive spent 99% of this morning at 70mm wanting just a little bit more.

Anyone have experience with sigma4less returns?
