Are these shot with raw or one of the jpeg settings(which one if)?

by the way, highest jpeg L HQ - same as i always shot on the 20D which was always crisp. this 40D is horrible, and like i said, i've shot bright daylight shots at 1/2000 shutter and same results, soft images.

i know many times is IS user error, but whey would there be no user error on my old 20D and there is on my 40D...tells me its the camera or the lens and not me. even my family camera (cheap olympus dslr e500 pics look better than this, which is what makes me mad)

still my question remains - how much is it for canon to calibrate the body and the lens? i bought both in the last 2 months.

I don't have experience with this, but if you have only had the items for 2 months they are within the 12 month warranty period... So, Canon should calibrate both for free.

OH - I also have the image mode thing on Faithful, 0,0,0,0, since I figured all editing should be done in post...am I wrong, should I change it back to the default that was 3,0,0,0 i think? which is the best to put it on? I think it is dumb they added that feature.

why your 20d had parameters didn't it? same thing.

how do i take pics with mirror lock up? is that the middle toggle between on and off?

Go to custom functions in the menu and it is probably about Cfn12, turn Mirror lock up 'on'.

Set the shooting mode on top of your camera to 'timer'

put it on a tripod and take test shots at widest open aperture and at 5.6

Do not touch the tripod or camera after pressing the button ands do not move as you might transmit vibrations depending what floor you are on

crobs808 wrote in post #4244168 (external link)
why didnt my 20D ever do this? there's no way average camera shake could overcome that shutter speed.

::: connor

I have no idea why; but actually you cannot be 100% sure it's not camera shake until you test it properly and the only way to do that is to use a tripod with MLU

Crobs, I would test it on a tripod with MLU, a cable release or timer function so that you don't move it while pressing the shutter button. My first 24-70 had focus issues but these are front or back focus issues. What ever it decided to focus on was still sharp. The reason I say that it could be camera shake is because mine used to look the same until I got used to shooting with it. It just picks up every little thing and please, don't take it as I was trying to critique your technique, just making some suggestions from past experience. I hope you get it figured out soon because the 40D and 24-70 make a great combo. I absolutely love mine.

not offended, no worries, but like i said, i've used a 24-70 at work for 2 years on a 20D...so i know what kind of IQ i should be seeing.

im going to send it in to canon...lens and body...darn! hate being w/o it.

how do i make it take a pic with MLU on? settings are 2.8, 1/125

You have to set it to timer. Or else it's waiting for you to press the shutter again to trip the exposure.

Read instructions on this site and do EXACTLY as it says.
Read instruction manual if you don’t know how to set your camera to do what it takes..

If you're shooting .jpg and don't want to post process why not just crank up the in camera sharpening and maybe contrast and see if you get results you're happy with?
