I am not a motor sports photographer by far but I figured I would share some of my photos from todays event. I shot these from the stands usinga 40d and a 70-200 2.8 Sigma lens. I am sorry for not taking the time to crop and for all of the people in the way but it was the best I could do with out shooting from the track (I wish I could have). I made a gallery to the rest of the images here (external link). Comments welcome.

Thanks, I really had no idea what I was doing as far as for shooting this. I am used to shooting paintball so this was really the safest sport I have shot so far (even if it was in the stands.) But I will say for my first experiance with drag racing I loved it. Now I just need to figure out how to get on the track and shoot it. I had no idea a car could be so loud!

Years ago I used to drag race my street car (external link) at the local strip. I'd love to go to a natioanl event some day!

He had an awful wreck where the chassis of his car separated right in front of his seat. His driver pod hit the wall breaking his foot, several fingers, and dislocating his wrist. The other half of the car hit the other driver's car.

Good shots there.

Nice to see John Force up and about. If ever anyone didn't deserve to get hurt, it was him. Looking forward to seeing him racing again soon.

So was this your first time watching these guys race? Did you get a chance to go out in the pits and get up close when they light the cars up? One of the fun things for me is to watch everybody in the pits when they get their first taste of Nitro, and watching everybody jump when they hit the throttle. It's definitely an experience like no other.

Your shots came out pretty good for never shooting this kind of stuff before, although you could've used a slower shutter speed to get some motion blur in there. Looks like you were in the perfect spot for a good shot of John.
