My new 30D does not report the focusing distance in the EXIF information. The value stored there is zero. All other lens parameters appear to be there.
I have this problem with three different Canon lenses and with two different 30D bodies. My older 300D does report the distance correctly with the same three lenses.
The lack of reported distance causes problems with my DxO software, which uses this value to help correct various lens aberrations.
The firmware on my 30D is 1.05, the latest version. The other 30D, a used camera I tried before buying a new one, had version 1.04.
Has anyone else found this problem? Is there a camera option or parameter I can set to fix the problem?
